Hospital Quality Program

Blue Cross is collaborating with local network hospitals to create and implement a new Hospital Quality Program. This program will help improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare by using standard, evidence-based measures to evaluate hospital performance—and by providing financial incentives to hospitals that successfully meet those measures.

Ninety percent of the hospitals in the Blue Cross network have agreed to participate in the program, with Blue Cross striving for 100 percent participation by the end of 2012. Base hospital reimbursement rates will be aligned with inflation, with additional financial incentives available to hospitals that meet the agreed-upon quality measures. This program has been designed to help improve the overall quality of local hospital care and moderate long-term healthcare costs. The table below shows examples of the quality measures, which may vary by hospital.
