Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Names William K. Wray Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) recently named William K. Wray executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO). In his new role, Wray is responsible for developing and driving technology strategies, policies, and best practices to support the company's operational objectives.

Mr. Wray was previously the vice chairman and CIO at Citizens Financial Group. He has nearly 20 years of financial industry experience, having served in a variety of capacities at Citizens since 1993.  He also served as vice president at Shawmut Bank from 1990 to 1993.

"Bill Wray brings to the table extensive experience in managing very large, complex systems conversion initiatives," said James E. Purcell, BCBSRI President and CEO. "This experience, along with his superb analytical, change management, and transformational skill set, will assist BCBSRI as we strive to serve our stakeholders more effectively and efficiently."

Commenting on his new role at BCBSRI, Mr. Wray said, "I look forward to joining the BCBSRI team. I have been a Blue Cross customer for many years and have always admired the company. I am especially fortunate to lead the technology function at a time when BCBSRI is making significant investments in technology to ensure that the features, timeliness, and reliability of its products and services are second to none."  

 Mr. Wray is active in the Rhode Island community, serving on the boards of Amos House, the Providence Performing Arts Center, and Providence YearUp. He is also a trustee of Our Lady of Mercy Church and a member of the Finance Council of the Diocese of Providence. He holds a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree from Stanford University.  Mr. Wray and his wife Nancy live in North Kingstown, R.I. The couple has three grown children.
