Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island offers helping hands ready to serve: Seeking community projects

PROVIDENCE, RI - Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) is now accepting applications from organizations interested in participating in Blue across Rhode Island, one of the state’s largest annual days of community service. Now in its sixth year, Blue across Rhode Island provides support to critical community service organizations working to achieve their important social missions. Applications will be accepted until April 26, 2017.

Since Blue across Rhode Island’s inception six years ago, BCBSRI employees have provided more than 18,000 volunteer hours to nonprofit organizations around the state. In addition to volunteers, BCBSRI also provides each organization with a $5,000 grant to support expenses incurred for the volunteer project, totaling $243,000 in funding over the last five years. Blue across Rhode Island is a core component of BCBSRI’s nationally recognized employee volunteer program. This year’s Blue across Rhode Island will take place Friday, September 15, 2017.

“Blue Cross is dedicated to helping Rhode Islanders live the healthiest lives possible, and we are proud to partner with remarkable community organizations across the state to amplify their impact,” said Carolyn Belisle, managing director of Community Relations for BCBSRI. “Our community partners have told us that the impact of Blue across Rhode Island manpower and funding has been transformative, and we look forward to expanding our reach this year.”

Eligible agencies will have missions aligned with BCBSRI’s own: to improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders by improving their health. In keeping with Blue across Rhode Island’s historic focus on laying a foundation of good health for the youngest Rhode Islanders, special consideration will be given to organizations and projects focused on children. To qualify, organizations must have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status. Interested organizations can find more details and apply online at by 5:00p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

Organizations interested in learning more about the process can also attend an informational webinar on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:00p.m. Questions and RSVPs can be directed to by April 10, 2017.
