Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Welcomes Carrie Feliz to its Board of Directors


PROVIDENCE, RI  – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) today announced that Carrie Bridges Feliz has joined its board of directors. As its newest member, Ms. Feliz brings an extensive background in public policy, population health and community development to the role.

“Carrie’s experience in public health, particularly in her work to diminish healthcare disparities, will be of great value to BCSBRI as we collaborate with others on creating an integrated, patient-centered system of care,” said Peter Andruszkiewicz, president and CEO for BCBSRI. “Her deep knowledge of the Rhode Island community and her ability to create partnerships are real assets to our board.”

Ms. Feliz currently serves as Director of Strategic Community Partnerships for the Providence Public School Department (PPSD), where she works to improve students’ academic performance and overall wellbeing. Prior to her role at PPSD, she spent more than six years at the Rhode Island Department of Health where she led the efforts to achieve health equity by assuring equitable systems, empowering communities and building capacity to access comprehensive, high-quality services at the regional, state and local levels.

In addition to a Masters in Public Health from the Boston University School of Public Health, Ms. Feliz received her B.S. in Biology and certificate in Health Policy from Duke University. She has previously served on the steering committee on Health Care Access and Finance for the National Academy of State Health Policy, and as program committee co-chair for the Rhode Island Public Health Association. She is also a member of the Women’s Health Council of RI. 

An active volunteer in the community, Ms. Feliz served on the board of directors for Young Voices, a Rhode Island-based nonprofit that transforms urban youth into powerful advocates, and as a member of the advisory board for Comprehensive Educational Services Inc.  In 2012, she was recognized as a Woman of Achievement by the YWCA of Rhode Island and in 2011 she received a Women of Excellence Community Award from the Women’s Center of Rhode Island.
